Yoga for the Two-Week Wait
“Can I do yoga during the two-week wait?” is one of the most common questions I receive. My answer? Yes, unless you don’t feel up to it or your doctor told you not to.
Here’s the truth about exercise during the two-week wait, there aren’t any official guidelines. At least not that I could find. And I think the lack of clear direction is what makes it hard (and scary) for many women to feel comfortable and confident about movement practices during the TWW. Understandably so, there’s a fear there. “What if I do something and it ruins everything?” If you’ve thought this, you’re not alone.
In general (again, unless your doctor says otherwise) light and moderate-intensity movement are allowed during the two-week wait. This isn’t the time for marathon training, but that doesn’t mean total bed rest either. There’s a happy medium.
If you’re undergoing IVF, some doctors might ask you to avoid exercise the first few days after your transfer. That has more to do with protecting your ovaries which might be enlarged and prone to torsion than it does enhancing implantation.
Still a little nervous about exercise and the two-week wait? Understandable. If you’re open to it, try a leisurely stroll or this yoga sequence I created with you in mind. It’s gentle, slow, and doesn’t contain any twists. It was designed to help you release tension, feel calm and connected, and encourage blood flow to your reproductive organs.
Know that I’m rooting for you and wishing you all the best!
